This series is perfect for learning about figures through history。 Some parts of this book were above my son's head, but he asked questions and now has a broader view of what happened in Nelson Mandela's life。 He said, "It is sad that these people had to go through what they did for freedom。" This series is perfect for learning about figures through history。 Some parts of this book were above my son's head, but he asked questions and now has a broader view of what happened in Nelson Mandela's life。 He said, "It is sad that these people had to go through what they did for freedom。" 。。。more

Nelson Mandela was a very busy activist for the rights of black people in South Africa。 He spent twenty seven years in jail for his convictions。 He was a very determined man who knew that all people should be treated respectfully and equally。 This book shows his struggles with the opposing side throughout his life and the results of these struggles。 It is a good way to start learning about life in South Africa。

Despite having read other biographies and attending a museum exhibit about Nelson Mandela, I learned new things!

Read alongside Mandela's autobiography, A Long Walk to Freedom。 Belviso does an excellent job condensing 600+ pages of a highly eventful life down to 100 short pages with illustrations。 Read alongside Mandela's autobiography, A Long Walk to Freedom。 Belviso does an excellent job condensing 600+ pages of a highly eventful life down to 100 short pages with illustrations。 。。。more

Fairly accurate account without diving into the deeper issues of the day。 Read it to see how these books dive into historical figures。

I feel connected to this story as I used to live in South Africa。

Nelson's life, his achievements, and his sentence, were incredible。 The apartheid of South Africa was horrifying (and I know it was worse than described in the books), and Nelson's fight was Herculean。 What an incredible man! This biography was fantastic。 It showed how Nelson Mandela strived to show his opposition to the apartheid regime of the South African government and how he struggled and suffered by being given many years of imprisonment to finally becoming president of South Africa。

This biography for younger readers provides a concise life-story of this amazing man who battled apartheid in South Africa while raising the flag of peaceful revolution。 Mandela’s story is filled with years of imprisonment and it reminded me of the Old Testament experience of Joseph in Egypt – both were thrown into prison for years and then, they were not only were they released but became world-changing leaders within the country that imprisoned them。 Mandela spent twenty-seven years in prison This biography for younger readers provides a concise life-story of this amazing man who battled apartheid in South Africa while raising the flag of peaceful revolution。 Mandela’s story is filled with years of imprisonment and it reminded me of the Old Testament experience of Joseph in Egypt – both were thrown into prison for years and then, they were not only were they released but became world-changing leaders within the country that imprisoned them。 Mandela spent twenty-seven years in prison and once released, he became the country’s first black president。 。。。more

Excellent book for the young audience。 Well done sketches adorn almost every page。 I would have liked to have seen photos, but I could easily tell who all the key people were。 This is even a good book for adults to start with, since the serious biographies on Nelson Mandela tend to be huge。 So this 105 page summary of his life was a nice brisk preview。 For kids, this book is ideal。My favorite Mandela book is: Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation which is the story th Excellent book for the young audience。 Well done sketches adorn almost every page。 I would have liked to have seen photos, but I could easily tell who all the key people were。 This is even a good book for adults to start with, since the serious biographies on Nelson Mandela tend to be huge。 So this 105 page summary of his life was a nice brisk preview。 For kids, this book is ideal。My favorite Mandela book is: Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation which is the story that inspired Invictus。 The first half of this book covers Mandela and apartheid very well, and the second half focuses on the Rugby World Cup, in South Africa, where South Africa prevailed。 。。。more

Read this for a reading challenge I’m doing this year。 Super interesting to learn a little more about Nelson Mandela。 I had picked this at the beginning of the year so it seems even more applicable now

I know there are more in depth novels on the life of Nelson Mandela including A long walk to Freedom , which I plan to buy and read。 However, this Who was series, does a very good job of breaking down concise facts while not being written like a textbook。 There is still emotion in the words。 This series may be geared towards children; but I think it's good for anyone who wants to learn。 This was the only book offered on overdrive through my local library online systems, (Sad I know。) My local li I know there are more in depth novels on the life of Nelson Mandela including A long walk to Freedom , which I plan to buy and read。 However, this Who was series, does a very good job of breaking down concise facts while not being written like a textbook。 There is still emotion in the words。 This series may be geared towards children; but I think it's good for anyone who wants to learn。 This was the only book offered on overdrive through my local library online systems, (Sad I know。) My local library has more books, but of course due to covid-19 it is shut down at the moment。 As always, Happy Reading。 。。。more

This series is always good for me to learn about someone/something that I’m not familiar with。I didn’t know much about South Africa’s history and Nelson Mandela。 So this book educated me a lot! He was in a prison much longer than I expected。。。 I was impressed by his indomitable spirit。

Nice book on introducing Rolihlahla (the tree shaker) to kids。I highly recommend this book to young readers。

This was a good introduction to Nelson Mandela, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as other books in this series。 It seemed to oversimplify some things, even for the target audience, and the last chapter particularly felt rushed。

It was okay but when I looked into a piece of info (the pronunciation of his African name Rolihlahla ) I found a possible mistake
